Although he initially trained as an architect, his passion for illustration led him down a different path before transitioning into a full-time designer. He began freelancing for renowned glassmakers Steven & Williams and later ventured into creating designs for Wedgwood pottery. Murray also showcased his metal designs through collaborations with Mappin & Webb. Notably, in 1936, he assumed the role of the lead architect responsible for designing Wedgwood's innovative new factory in Burlaston. Post-war, he reverted to his architectural pursuits.
